Contemporary Mindfulness-Based strategies are based on ancient teachings, vipassana meditation. Vipassana is a word meaning clear seeing. The contemporary renditions (MBSR, MBCT, etc) were originally created and standardized as research programs. As such they have quantified and demonstrated the value of these teachings, proving statisitically the power of mindfulness-based practices in healing an increasing number of physical and mental illnesses. Yet the contemporary adaptions have only begun to tap the potential of the original teachings.
