First Steps is the first in a series of courses. The entire series addresses the objectives of the Insight and Mindfulness course but in short more intense sessions developing capacities at more discrete levels. Segments of the Insight and Mindfulness course like Going Beyond are available in group and individual sessions and in several formats in person, online, or via Skype: with practice books, in digital formats as an email course, and as a computer based meditation course on CD-ROM. As in the group course, Insight and Mindfulness, deepen intimate experience of your own own mind and body processes. Through this awareness enrich personal and professional skills by developing strength in observing processes, disidentifying with content, and intervening in unfolding processes at increasingly subtle levels. For continuing educaton, you will explain the importance and relevance of these experiences and processes from the perspective of Buddhist Psychology. In this first of four segments, Going Beyond - First Steps develop the preliminary skills necessary for recognizing and articulating phenomenological experiences as they arise in the mind body process during life experience and in therapeutic settings.
First level Objectives At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to articulate phenomenological experiences as they arise in their own mind/body process - preliminary skills necessary for awareness and work with qualities of mind by • Finding breath and body • Becoming familiar experientially with spacious qualities of mind • Establishing the practice of concentration and self-kindness • Finding balance and flexibility of mind in order to foster mindfulness within in private and in clinical settings Currently only level one, First Steps, is available on CD ROM or other digital format. If you would like to go further, the entire course (six to eight weeks by arrangement) is available in individual session at the rate of $100 per session. These can be in person or by telephone or Skype. Apply for individual work here. This series combined with a dedicated mindfulness and insight practice can serve in as an apprenticeship in learning how to offer meditation instructions to clients. Materials for this course may be used with clients by those who have taken this course with Mary Rees.
